30 October 2026Dissemination Workshop and Project Closing: Generative AI in Cambodian Higher Education
On 28 October 2026, the Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI) held a dissemination workshop in Siem Reap to share the findings of its study on generative AI in Cambodian higher education. The event also closed the project “Building Regional Partnership for Higher Education Innovation”, supported by the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Special Fund. At the workshop, CDRI launched its research report “After Adoption: Use, Skill and Rules for Generative AI in Cambodian Higher Education”.
Based on surveys of 1,510 students and 285 lecturers, the study finds that:
- almost all students (98.3 percent) and lecturers (94.4 percent) have used generative AI, mostly free versions on their own phones;
- how much students use AI depends on the quality of their access: where they study, the device they use and the language they work in;
- only about one in five students and lecturers know of a written policy on AI at their institution.
Participants discussed how to support the effective, responsible and ethical use of AI in higher education. A student panel gave students a platform to share how they use AI in their studies and daily lives, and their views on the opportunities ahead.
More than 90 participants attended, including representatives of government ministries, higher education institutions and NGOs, lecturers, students and practitioners from the technology industry.
