02 October 2025CDRI Engages with Regional Experts at ASEAN Think Tanks Summit
On 2–3 October 2025, Dr Eng Netra, Executive Director, and Dr Chunly Sereyvicheth, Director of CDRI’s Education and Governance Centres, joined leading think tanks and experts from across Southeast Asia at the ASEAN Secretariat for the 2nd ASEAN Think Tanks Summit (ATTS).
The Summit welcomed HE Dr Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, who delivered the keynote address. In his remarks, he underscored the growing importance of Track II dialogue and the vital role of think tanks in shaping ASEAN’s strategic direction. He also emphasized the need for inclusivity and diversity and encouraged the academic and research community to put forward forward-looking, practical policy recommendations.
CDRI's Executive Director also participated in a panel discussion on "Building Digital Trust and Resilience for an Inclusive Digital Economy" which discussed the need for ASEAN’s digital strategy to place strong emphasis on providing institutional and capacity support to the informal economy, largely composed of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises predominantly owned by women. Research institutes and think tanks play a critical role in this effort. Increased resources and stronger institutional support are particularly important for national-level research institutions in Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.
Over the two days, think tanks and experts exchanged perspectives, shared policy ideas, and explored solutions to pressing issues shaping the future of our region.
