30 September 2026Building Cambodia's Policy Modelling Capacity: Economics and Agriculture-Augmented SAM and CGE Training at CDRI
CDRI conducted an intensive four-day training course on the Cambodia Agriculture-Augmented Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) and Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) Capability at the CDRI Library. Sessions took place on 22, 23 and 25 September, and the course concluded on 28 September 2026.
The course was
led by Prof. Peter Griffin, Founder and Principal Economist of Griffin CGE
Solutions (Denmark). He has more than 35 years of applied economic modelling
experience with governments and international financial institutions.
Participants include CDRI researchers and officials from the National Bank of
Cambodia (NBC), the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the Ministry of
Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), the Ministry of Planning (MoP), the
Office of the Council of Ministers (OCM), and the Cambodia Australia
Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED).
Over four days, participants covered:
- The data foundation: input–output tables, the SAM and multipliers
- Behaviour: producers, consumers and building a first CGE model
- The full static model: closures, government and trade
- Dynamics: the Cambodia baseline and the 2026–2027 policy model
Every model is built on Cambodia’s own published data,
including the 2024 Cambodia SAM. Each one is run live in the room and read line
by line, and participants keep the model files and labs afterwards.
Alongside the training, Prof. Peter Griffin and Prof. Dr
Matthew McCartney, Chief Economist of CDRI, will make short courtesy visits to
line ministries and development partners. They will exchange views on policy
modelling and areas of mutual interest.
We thank all participants and partners for their commitment
to building evidence-based policymaking in Cambodia.
