Brainstorming Workshop with Cambodian Line Ministries on “Developing a Programme of Intervention for the Integration of Returnees into the Cambodian Economy.”

On 29 August 2025, CDRI, in collaboration with the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), hosted a Brainstorming Workshop with Cambodian Line Ministries on “Developing a Programme of Intervention for the Integration of Returnees into the Cambodian Economy.” The workshop brought together key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Council for the Development of Cambodia, Office of the Council of Ministers, Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, National Bank of Cambodia, Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, ILO, IOM, Skills Development Fund, and others.

The discussion focused on strategies and plans to support returnees in the short, medium, and long term. It also aimed to collect and share data on returnees’ work experience, existing employment tools, job opportunities, and the challenges in expanding employment creation. Insights from the workshop will inform interventions for managing the economic reintegration of Cambodian returnees from Thailand, which is a set of recommendations on strategies to generate employment and sustainable livelihoods.
